What is wrong with my hamster?
My hamster Valentine has gotten very sick today. He keeps falling asleep randomly. He tries to eat when I give him food but falls asleep in the middle of it. He has trouble walking and seems to have trouble balancing. He was walking in circles for a while and he wobbles a bit standing still. He seems too weak to do much but he still tries to walk around. He keeps changing his position while he is sleeping. He even tries to clean his face.
I am thinking he has had a stroke and is trying to recover from it. He was normal yesterday. I have separated him from the other hamster and am watching him and trying to do anything I can to help him. Does anyone know what he has? Is there any way I can help him or is it just a matter of waiting it out with him? Please don't just tell me he is going to die because I am a very persistent person and I intend to do what I can to help, even if I have to babysit him pretty much all day.
I agree. You need to take him to the vet. If he had a stroke he may recover but may still have problems moving around.
He may be dehydrated as well if he has problems moving around. Hold him in your hand and gently put the water bottle to his mouth and see if he will drink.
I don't want to get your hopes up that he may get through this problem but just be prepared okay? I'm not saying that to upset you but I've had my share of dealing with hamster illness and sometimes things can happen very quickly.
You obviously care about your little guy and I commend you for that. More small pet owners should have your attitude and dedication! Take him to see a vet and see what they advise.
