Valentine Day Dining

The question of Valentine's Day will most likely garner a sigh of a response or even worse from many men out there. There is no reason for this, however, as long as a little forethought is used to plan ahead while keeping your sweetheart firmly in mind.

A major concern regarding Valentine's Day is the cost. Although some might consider a lack of funds unfortunate - or even an obstacle - it should not be considered as a necessary stumbling block to the holiday. In fact, Valentine's Day activities needn't involve dipping into the wallet anyway!

For example, a romantic walk around places that played a part in the relationship is a perfect and free alternative to the ubiquitous gifts that are often associated with Valentine's Day. That café where you met, where you shared your first meal, or simply a special place that you have enjoyed together can all be stops on your romantic stroll.

If you do have the cash, however, there are plenty more choices available regarding how to spend the day. How about extending a day trip to London into a weekend getaway for example?

It's never a bad idea to start out with a surprise gift. Although chocolates and flowers are unlikely to be badly received, a little more effort is likely to prove even more rewarding. This gift - along with the time together - can be used to make even more memories, such as opting to see a show, visiting a spectacular garden or viewing an exhibition - especially if this is a trip that your partner has wanted to see.

There are many spots in the city perfect for couples to visit together. If the weather is warm, a trip down the Thames is an ideal way to see many of the sites all in one go. A trip on the London Eye is another way to see the sites, without spending all day travelling.

London is also a fabulous shopping city, and a trip to Harrods or a walk around Covent Garden to browse the boutiques will be hard for any woman to say no to; while the area also boasts a number of spas. This is great opportunity to work out all the kinks of the day with a relaxing massage, sauna or any other number of treatments available.

There is nothing better than topping off your day together with a candlelit dinner, of which the city of London provides so many opportunities for. Whether you prefer the hottest restaurant in town, an 'oldie but goodie' eaterie or a perennial favourite, little compares with sharing a meal over candlelight. Many restaurants will be pandering to the Valentines crowd so finding champagne, oysters, truffles, and decadent chocolate concoctions will prove effortless this time of year.

If you are strapped for ideas in your home town, or the facilities and attractions simply aren't available, then Valentines Day in London could serve as the perfect location for a romantic getaway. In addition to great attractions, events and dining options, the city is also host to a number of fantastic hotels - many of which will have special offers available for creating a special love nest for you and your partner.

Restaurant for Valentines Day Meal (Evening) - Newcastle?

I know it's pretty over-rated but hey, any excuse to try out a new restaurant is good with me.
Anyone know of any good restaurants in Newcastle that'd be the type of setting for valentines day? (So no down and out greasy cafes please )

In fact if you know of any really nice restaurants, regardless of atmosphere I'd be glad to hear of sugesstions. I'm a big fan of dining out.

I had a lovely meal in Tavistock - a new restaurant on the quayside in newcastle. It has replaced Bar Casa near the Swing Bridge, opposite Sea nightclub. Absolutely gorgeous and you can book a table with a view of the river

Wagamama's has just opened up at Old Eldon Square - delicious but don't think you can book

Also, try Piccolino's, behind the law courts on the quayside - upmarket italian with an extensive menu

My fave restaurant in town is El Torrero Tapas - just off the Quayside
