Valentine Day Children Crafts

Valentine's Day is not only for lovers.
It is also a friendship and family feast.
This is also the greatest opportunity to meet new people.
So, let's start our Valentines party.
Invite your friends and ask them to invite their unmarried friends too.
If you have children, celebrate this holiday with them.
Think of different themes for your décor ; create invitation cards dedicated to the Valentine's Day party, a badge that you will give to your guests or ask them to dress a fun costume.
For Presents: Ask your guests to bring a fun gift that do not costs much than $5 or $10 and can be given to anybody (kids or adults, men or women) ; decorate a box and put it near the entry door. Have the guests put gifts there as they arrive. Plan to organize a lottery later in the evening and allot the gifts to your guests.
A supper-table is an excellent way to make your guests able to talk to everyone.
Organize a "potluck" and have people bring foods from different categories: main dishes (roastbeef, chicken wings, seafood, salmon, vegetables, pasta and potatoes salads, tomatoes and mozzarella, etc.), dessert (chocolate, pies, brownies) and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks). Decorate the table with some flowers.
Create a bar area and include the drinks that your friends brought and prepare a punch bowl with alcohol and another one without alcohol. This kind of drink is really useful when you have many guests.
Set the musical mood: create some playlists with songs from your favorite CDs.
If you have fresh singles, do not include songs like "Without You" or "Fly Me To The Moon". Prefer latino music or set up a topic like "The 60's", "Disco" or "Motown".
Happy Valentine's Day
I have just started working at a daycare and take care of children aged 1 to 4 does anyone have any ideas?
I need some games and craft ideas. I have done cards and Valentines Day people, tracing their hands and feet and I am slowly running out of ideas!! Any ideas would be appreciated
I worked in an infant toddler room for about five years. Children this age loved to do a variety of activities including sensory, arts and crafts, circle time, gross motor, etc.
For sensory we used to let them play with shaving cream, whip cream, pudding, playdough that we would make together from scratch, gak, and did lots of baking activities together which they all enjoyed. Also I used to put a variety of things in the sensory table. In the winter I would put snow colored with food coloring, in the fall leaves, in the spring grass, sand etc. I think sensory was the children's favorite.
For circle time we would sing songs about anything and dance. We would do excercises too. The children thought it was fun to watch me look silly! We also read stories. You have to make facial expressions and move your hands to make the story interesting to the children. If they look bored then move onto the next thing.
Outside time was always a change of atmosphere for the children when weather permitted. Even in the winter they had fun although there were always a few who hated getting the snow on their hands. It was fun watching the younger ones master body coordination by learning to walk in the snow. In the spring time sometimes we would spend alot of time outside.
For fine motor building blocks, pin boards, pegs, coloring, cutting playdough with cookie cutters, etc. Gross motor can be more individualized depending on the level that the child is at. It can be anything from excersizing, riding cars, balancing, hoping on circles on the floor etc.
Most daycares have one of two ways they teach the children. Some have weekly themes and others have child initiated themes. In the child initiated themes say you are outside and the children see a catterpillar that really catches their interest. You can focus on catterpillars by having them draw catterpillars, having one in a cage to watch it's life cycle, reading and singing about catterpillars, making playdough the color of the catterpillar etc. Most daycares are adapting this policy, although some of the old school ones are still on weekly themes. They would have say community helpers for a theme where you can read about fire trucks, use the color red, foot paint red with red paint, and things like that.
