Spending time with your kids: Family Day, a tradition of linking

What is on the motherboard of your family? Working, volunteering, sports, school groups, clubs, social activities, household chores? Have you ever wondered how you will keep your family in bondage? I worked as a child and family counselor for over a decade and keeping families in bondage was a particular target of Mine. Fourteen years ago when I had my daughter for the first time, the target is now personal. As my family grew, I knew I had to make a commitment longer to keep our dedicated relationship. I wanted to avoid the pitfalls of my clients who are disconnected from their families during the critical stages of development. I could see all the challenges that my clients could face problems too. Then I had the idea to hold a weekly tradition on the link called Family Day.

As Valentine's Day or Thanksgiving, Family Day is a celebration everything that takes place on a weekly basis. We celebrate love, connection and uniqueness of our family. We are committed to day, no matter what obstacles: work, school, sports or keeping house. This is the day we got up as a single bedtime as one. Each moment is unity, the concentration and quality. We started the tradition in 1999. We kept the fair days, but active since our children were three and five years. She got in bed first thing in the morning as long caress. He went to the kitchen and make a special breakfast. After breakfast, we wrote a list of activities on a piece of paper. Each chose an activity that every family member the opportunity to share their favorite games or events. I can not tell you how many times during those first years we played blocks, dolls or hide-n-seek, but the activity was only one way to build a relationship.

New activities that older children and includes movies, adventure travel and long days. But when the day is done, we feel bound to the long week of hard work ahead. Family Day might be beneficial a tradition for you. He has led many families to approach my clients, some who were about to disconnect.

That's how it works:

  1. Pick a day: We decided on Sunday. One day is really a perfect amount of time to meet activity special individual. If you find a whole day is too hard in their hours, after a night might work well. For example, a family game Friday night can be fun or a pizza on Saturday and a film could function. Or grow at a moment when he has his agenda that the church and breakfast.
  2. Wake up together: When our children were young, generally made their way into our bed, woke pantomimes, wrestling, or playing a guessing game. Now they are older, we're on the couch for some hot drink, talk or tell jokes, then head of the breakfast table.
  3. Breakfast: Each party has an advantage. Our party is in Family Breakfast. Everyone has a task to which we all work hard to make meals an event. My son has learned to make coffee (under supervision) when he was four years old and my daughter made her "famous" pancakes. Do not stop at this food. Breakfast is full of goodies.
  4. Day Family Journal: Although we've spent years writing a list of activities on a piece paper, a family day, he suggested we write a diary lists. From that point, after breakfast we Our Official Family Day and take turns writing our special list. You can even add a page of family news. We expect good memories of our list from time to time to remember our past family days.
  5. Family Day Activities: In our family, we find eight activities of Family Day. There are four of us, each of us receives two options. The writer can not choose who is the first, second and third places. The writer shares his selection. The ideas vary with the age of their children. My son tends to hide Pick-n-seek when I was younger while my daughter has a tendency to choose an art project. Now, select movies, games, or shopping. Whatever the choice, we must all participate. Some suggestions are hide-n-seek, play a board game in a cafe, planting a vegetable garden, making cookies, making paper dolls, playing with dolls, building blocks of a city, forming a history of fear through the ice rent movies at home or go to the cinema, painting another portrait of bunched fabric, birdhouses decorating, Christmas gifts, carving pumpkins, climbing, host of the International Invitational Ping-Pong, putting puzzles together, Playing House, playing I-spy with a special coating that we found on the beach, the last day of the family, playing bingo, going to visit family, venturing into a museum, telling stories in height, making models in clay, and more. The list is a priority in terms of online time or we will put ideas in a basket and drawing. Even if some constraints Parents have a right of veto (money or time), in general, children anything collection is accepted.
  6. Commitment: We are committed to family day each week, however there are exceptions. For example, if I am in a training weekend and my husband has a labor dispute, the day family will be organized by the parent at home or go to plan in advance to Saturday. Our friends and family know they are not available on Sunday because we are focusing. After almost 10 years, I can say that the Day family was the best thing that ever established in our little clan.
